Tjaart van der Walt is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in George and Mossel Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa. He has been practicing for eighteen years and is trained in various techniques and schools of therapy; including Ericksonian Therapy, Ego State Therapy, Eye Movement Integration Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
He has a special interest in the fields of Brief Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy (especially for disorders of a dissociative nature), Trauma and Loss, Neuropsychology, Personality evaluations and Psycho-Legal evaluations.
Tjaart has presented at numerous workshops and congresses; including the 4th Ego-State World Congress in Heidelberg, Germany (2011); a workshop on Brief Intervention Strategies, George (2011) and Hope after Trauma Conference, Stellenbosch (2011). He has undergone various training opportunities for Continued Professional Development and is a co-author of the books, “Deur Trauma” (2006) and “Die Groot Huweliksboek” (2003), both compiled by Maretha Maartens.
He has further presented a workshop on Timeline Therapy during the 3rd part of the 2013 MEISA hosted congress focussing on perspectives on change in psychotherapy and a presentation on “Trauma, Attachment & Neurobiology – Adult Play Therapy” at the 2014 MEISA International trauma Congress.
Tjaart continues to increase his knowledge and has completed A Basic CNS Pharmacology Course for Psychologists presented by SACNA and a refresher course on “Neuroanatomy, Neuropathology and Neuroimaging” presented by Coenraad Hattingh this year (2015).
He is registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa), MEPSSA (Milton H. Erickson Psychotherapy Society of South Africa) and MEISA (Milton Erickson Institute of South Africa) professional boards. He is also accredited to administer multiple psychometric tests, including the 16PF-5 and MMPI-2.
